Notts Sport Schools Championship for Boys & Investec Schools Championship for Girls

There are tiered events for U14, U16 and U18, the the structure is the same for both the boys and the girls. The full details are on the EH website. A brief overview is:

U18

  • Tier 1: two term league
  • Tier 2: national cup
  • Tier 3: plate for early losers in tier 2
  • Tier 4: for those not wishing to enter the national events, run by counties and regions

U16

  • Tier 1: national cup
  • Tier 2: plate for early losers in tier 1
  • Tier 3: for those not wishing to enter the national events, run by counties and regions
  • Tier 4: 7-a-side tournament for those school new to the sport or those unable to compete with those in Tier 3

U14

  • Tier 1: tournament based event for the top schools, early rounds run by counties and regions
  • Tier 2: tournament based event for the next tier of schools, early rounds run by counties and regions
  • Tier 3: 7-a-side tournament for those school new to the sport or those unable to compete with those in Tier 3, run locally

EH run U18 Tiers 1, 2 and 3 and U16 Tiers 1 and 2. Entry is direct to England Hockey.

The counties and the South will run the early stages of U18 Tier 4, U16 Tier 3 and U14 Tiers 1 and 2. Entry is to your county. At U14 counties may run separate Tier 1 and Tier 2 events or, in some cases, put the next teams from the Tier 1 County Cup in to the regional Tier 2.

The EH development officers will assess the demand for U16 Tier 4 and U14 Tier 3 and may run an event.

There are fees to participate at all levels. For the rounds run by the South, a typical amount is:

  • pool round £35 without umpires, £65 with umpires
  • finals £100

South News

Coronavirus With most of the region in, or appoint to be in Tier 4, we are back to Stage 1 of the return to play. Adult hockey is restricted to members of a single household. U18 sessions can continue but the travel protocols require 'local travel only' (village, town or part of city). EH are clarifying with the government the precise interpretation of this.  For full details please see the EH website. and their FAQs.

Performance Centres Due to the region being in Tier 4 by 03 January, Performance Centre activity in the South has been suspended.

Maurice Kitrell It iswith sadness that we report the death of Maurice Kitrell, President of Middlesex HA. He has served on the Middlesex committee for many years.

SCHA AGM The SCHA AGM will be an electronic meeting on 14 January 2021. Click for details.

Sanctions for Covid 19 Offences EH brought in a range of new penalties for Red Cards and MMOs where there has been a breach of Covid 19 regulations. The minimum suspensions will be:

  • regulation 6.5(a) - 45 days (no violence used, attempted threatened)
  • regulation 6.5(b) - 60 days (violence to player used, attempted or threatened)
  • regulation 6.5(c) - 90 days (violence to official used, attempted or threatened)
